Quant, McDonald, Marquez Take Second Place Finishes for Delaware at Lafayette-Rider Invitational

NEW YORK -- Asha Quant (at right) posted three top five finishes, including a second place showing in the long jump, and Brad Dodson led the Blue Hen men with a sixth place finish in the 3,000 meters to highlight action for the University of Delaware indoor track and field teams Friday night at the Lafayette-Rider Invitational held at the New York City Armory.

The meet, co-hosted by Lafayette College and Rider University, included some of the top athletes from all NCAA divisions in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Led by Quant and second place finishes from Kelli McDonald in the pole vault and Cristine Marquez in 400 meters, collected 19 top finishes while the UD men had five top 10 showings.

Quant was second in the long jump (18-1 3/4), fourth in the 60 meters (7.85), and fifth in the 200 meters (25.33) while McDonald was second in the pole vault (11-9 3/4), and Marquez was second in the 400 meters (56.64) and third in the 200 meters (25.07), the second fastest time in UD history.

In addition, the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Yianna Antonopoulos, Kellyn Wright, Karen Mandrachia, and Stephanie Taylor was third in 9:37.81, and Kayla Hennessy was third in the 60 meter hurdles (9.02), sixth in the 200 meters (25.35) and eighth in the 400 meters (57.90). Taylor also placed ninth in the 500 meters (1:22.34) while Wright was 10th in the 800 meters (2:19.72).

On the men’s side, Dodson had Delaware’s top showing as he covered the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:39.74. Also for the UD men, the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Alex Malikian, Glenn Puzio, Brad Richie, and Michael Tait was seventh (8:08.50), John Viotto was ninth in the shot put (49-4 1/2), Will Jurkowski was ninth in the 500 meters (1:06.07), and Jeremy Simkins was ninth in the 400 meters (50.19).
