McDonald Captures Women’s Pole Vault; Dodson Sets Men’s 3,000 Meter Record For Delaware at NYU Meet

This date in UD  AthleticsNEW YORK -- Junior Kelli McDonald (at right) won the women’s pole vault competition and Brad Dodson set a school record in the 3,000 meters with a second place finish to lead the University of Delaware men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams at the New York University Fasttrack Invitational held Friday at the New York City Armory.

McDonald captured her nine career pole vault title as she leaped a school record 12 feet, 2-inches for the second best jump in school history while Dodson was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:20.95, breaking the old mark of 8:21.54 by Mike DiGennaro in 2000.

Delaware athletes posted 12 top 10 finishes on the women’s side and five top 10 finishes on the men’s side.

Also for the UD women, the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Christina Antonopoulos, Karen Mandrachia, Cristine Marquez, and Sarah Taylor was second with a time of 9:40.72, Laura Chirico was third in the pole vault (11-9 3/4), Marquez was third in the 400 meters (56.66), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Kristi Cox, Alex Francis, Liz Harvin, and Kayla Hennessy was fifth in a time of 3:56.44. Hennessy also was eighth in both the 60 meter hurdles (9.08) and 200 meters (25.5).

Also for the Delaware men, Jake Cohen was second in the pole vault (14-3 1/4), Greg Stirparo was ninth in the weight throw (46-2 1/2), Mike Zeberkiewicz was 10th in the mile (4:21.18), and the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Alex Malikian, Brad Richie, Mike Tait, and Steve Vincent was 10th in a time of 4:21.18.
