NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams completed action Saturday with participants at both the Princeton Open at Princeton University and at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New York City Armory.
Delaware athletes posted three top 10 finishes at the New Balance Invitational at the Gregg Cantwell placed fourth in the men’s 5,000 meters with a time of 14:46.11 (third best all-time at UD), the women’s 4 x 800 meter relay team of Yianna Antonopoulos, Christina Antonopoulos, Kellyn Wright, and Karen Mandrachia placed seventh with a school-record time of 9:16.78, and the men’s 4 x 800 meter relay group of Mike Tait, James Townsend, Corey Wall, and Nate Twer posted a ninth place finish in a time of 7:45.22.
The women’s school record in the 4 x 800 meter relay broke the previous mark of 9:26.98 set by the Antonopoulos sisters, Wright, and Laura Heenan in 2007.
Also for the UD men, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Vinny Fronczkowski, Justin Molligan, Nick Morrisey, and Jeremy Simkins placed 14th in 3:25.11, Morrisey placed 77th in the 200 meters (23.19), and Fronczkowski finished 88th in the 200 meters (23.64).
Also for the Blue Hen women, Julia Somers placed 13th in the 5,000 meters (18:07.30), the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Cristine Marquez, Kristi Cox, Kayla Hennessy, and Asia Hollis was 20th in a time of 3:59.30, Hollis was 119th in the 200 meters (26.74), and Cox was 122nd in the 200 meters in 26.86).
Delaware posted 12 top four finishes at the Princeton Open highlighted by Amanda Marshall (at right), who won the women’s weight throw with a toss of 53-feet, 2 3/4-inches and also finished second in the shot put with a throw of 40-10 1/4.
Also for the UD women, Leah Putman was second in the long jump (35-2 1/2), Briana Gray was second in the high jump (5-3), Kelli McDonald was third in the pole vault (11-11 3/4), Annie Fulton was third in the long jump (34-5), the 4 x 400 meter relay was third (4:22.65), Laura Chirico was fourth in the pole vault (11-11 3/4), and Kim Atkins was fourth in the 500 meters (1:23.36).
For the Delaware men, Kevin McCove was second in the triple jump (42-1 3/4) and Jamie Igo was third in the triple jump (41-3 3/4) and fourth in the high jump (6-1 1/4).
