UNIVERSITY PARK , Pa. -- Christina Antonopoulos (at right) posted two third place finishes for the University of Delaware women and John Viotto and Jim Schwendtner had top five finishes for the Blue Hen men at the Penn State Indoor Track & Field Open Saturday at Ashenfelter Track.
The Delaware men recorded six top 10 finishes while the Blue Hen women had nine top 10 performances to cap a successful day of competition.
Antonopoulos was the Hens’ top performer on the day as she placed third in the mile run with a time of 5:01.44 and teamed with Karen Mandrachia, Tijen Ozcan, and Kellyn Wright to finish fourth in the distance medley relay with a clocking of 12:19.27. Her time in the mile was the fifth fastest in school history.
Also for the UD women, Amanda Marshall was fourth in the weight throw (52-0) and ninth in the shot put (40-1 1/2), Cristine Marquez was fourth in the 500 meters (1:15.17) and 13th in the 200 meters (25.18), Laura Chirico finished fifth in the pole vault (11-5 3/4), Yianna Antonopoulos was sixth in the 3,000 meters (10:12.07), Jennifer Holly was ninth in the pole vault (11-5 3/4), and Mandrachia was ninth in the mile (5:10.40).
Viotto and Schwendtner led the UD men as Viotto was fourth in the shot put (52-1) and Schwendtner was fifth in the weight throw (52-0). Also for the Blue Hens, the distance medley relay team of George Vernon, Ross Shober, James Townsend, and Gregg Cantwell was sixth (10:26.29), Mike Tait was ninth in the 800 meters (1:56.22), the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Vinny Fronczkowski, Nick Morrisey, Justin Molligan, and Jeremy Simkins was ninth (3:23.23), and Chase Renoll was 10th in the shot put (45-5).
Delaware will continue action Jan. 23 when the Blue Hens compete in the John Covert Classic at Lehigh University.
