 Meet Schedule/Information
NEWARK, Del. -- Nearly 60 men’s and women’s teams and 800 student-athletes will be in action this Saturday as the University of Delaware hosts the annual UD/Thomson Indoor Track and Field Invitational at Delaware Field House.
The meet is one of the largest collegiate indoor events in the region. Doors to the Delaware Field House will open at 8 a.m. and admission is $4 for adults and $2 for youth 17 and under. University of Delaware students with valid ID are admitted free.
Among the teams expected to compete are the University of Delaware, Delaware State, Wesley, Bowie State, Cabrini, Cheyney, Community College of New York, College of New Jersey, Coppin State (women only), East Stroudsburg, Franklin & Marshall, Kean, La Salle, Lehman, Lincoln, Loyola, Monmouth, Navy, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Ramapo, Rider, Rowan, Rutgers-Camden, Rutgers-Newark, Saint Joseph’s, St. Peter’s, Salisbury, Shenendoah, Stockton, Temple, and Towson (women only).
The meet is coordinated by University of Delaware men’s track and field coach Jim Fischer and women’s track and field coach Wendy McFarlane.
The meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the weight throw, pole vault, and the men’s and women’s 5,000 meters schedule to kickoff the event. The meet will contine into early evening with men’s and women’s field competitions in the shot put, long jump, high jump, and triple jump scheduled to take place.
Track events include the men’s and women’s 60 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, 200 meter dash, 400 meter run, 500 meter run, 800 meter run, 1,000 meter run, mile run, 3,000 meter run, 5,000 meter run, 4 x 400 relay, and 4 x 800 meter relay.
Among the top Blue Hen athletes to watch are men’s throwers John Viotto, Jim Schwendtner, Connor Whitesel, and Chase Renoll, and distance runners Gregg Cantwell and James Townsend. For the women, the Hens are led by sprinters Cristine Marquez and Kayla Hennessy, distance runners Christina Antonopoulos, Yianna Antonopoulos, Kellyn Wright, and Karen Mandrachia, pole vaulter Jennifer Holly, and thrower Amanda Marshall.
