NEW YORK -- University of Delaware senior Laura Chirico (at right) captured the pole vault title and the University of Delaware women’s indoor track and field team posted four other top 10 finishes to highlight action at the Gotham Cup Invitational hosted by New York University Friday evening at the New York City Armory.

Chirico, a senior from Dayton, N.J. (South Brunswick High School), cleared a height of 11-feet, 1 3/4 inches to lead all collegiate vaulters and finish almost six inches ahead of runner-up Mishelle McNamara of Wagner. She captured her seventh career meet pole vault title, including her second in as many weeks indoors after winning the Delaware Invitational title last week.

In addition to Chirico, Delaware had four other top 10 finishes as Sophie Kauffman was fifth in the 5,000 meters (18:31.68), Cassandra Wallen was sixth in the pole vault (9-8), Jaclyn Marangella was ninth in the pole vault (8-8 1/4), and Samantha Hunger was ninth in the triple jump (32-7).

Also for Delaware Lauren Paciorek was 13th in the long jump (14-11 1/2) and 24th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.91), Ali Lambert was 19th in the 3,000 meters (11:13.79), Isabel Graf finished 20th in the 3,000 meters (11:14.40), Tijen Ozcan was 33rd in the mile (6:01.38), Emma Rando finished 34th in the 3,000 meters (12:17.22), Jess Torres was 35th in the 1,000 meters (3:30.82), and Jordynn Towner was 52nd in the 800 meters (3:02.07).

Delaware will continue action Saturday when the Hens travel to the Penn State Open at State College, Pa.
