BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Blue Hen junior sprinter Asia Hollis (at right) captured both the 55 meter dash and the 400 meter run and the University of Delaware posted five other first place finishes on the way to a second place team finish at the John Covert Indoor Track & Field Classic hosted by Lehigh University Saturday at Rauch Field House.
Delaware enjoyed an impressive performance as the Blue Hens collected 28 top 10 finishes overall and collected 104 total points to finish second in the team standings behind host Lehigh with 124 points. Lafayette was third with 48 points followed by Wagner, Haverford, Rowan, Lock Haven, Stockton, and East Stroudsburg in the nine-team field.
Hollis was the Hens’ top finisher on the day as she won the 60 meters with a time of 8.01 and captured the 400 meters with a clocking of 1:00.28. She also teamed with Erica Sickler, Yesenia Boynton, and Kathryn Jenkins to finish second in the 4 x 400 meter relay (4:09.23) and was third in the 200 meters (27.07).
Also taking first place finishes for the Hens were Amanda Marshall in the weight throw (51-9), Laura Chirico in the pole vault (11-5 3/4), Katy Deinert in the 5,000 meters (19:08.73), Karen Mandrachia in the mile (5:14.73), and Kellyn Wright in the 800 meters (2:21.62).
Marshall, who also placed second in the shot put at Lehigh Saturday (40-6 1/4), won her third title of the season and increased her career numbers to 13 indoor meet championship titles and 17 outdoor titles.
Chirico also increased her career meet titles totals in the pole vault to nine, incuding four indoors and three so far this season.
In addition to the seven first place finishes, the Hens got second place finishes from the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Wright, Mandrachia, Tijen Ozcan, and Samantha Jones (10:04.50), the 4 x 400 meter relay of Sickler, Boynton, Hollis, and Jenkins (4:09.23), and Leeann Seiwell in the 5,000 meters (19:09.79).
