NEW YORK-- University of Delaware senior Cristine Marquez (at right) was the top performer for the Blue Hens as she posted three top 10 finishes at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New York City Armory Friday and Saturday.
Marquez was the team’s top individual finisher with a second place showing in the 200 meters as she raced to a time of 24.86, just .02 behind the winner Lakeisha Kelley from Florida International. Marquez finished ahead of runners from Oklahoma, Syracuse, UCLA, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Villanova to post the runner-up finish.
She also teamed with Karen Mandrachia, Vicky Caruso, and Kellyn Wright to place sixth in the distance medley relay (12:09.43) and partnered with Kristi Cox, Nijah Dupiche, and Caruso for a seventh place showing in the 4 x 200 meter relay with a school-record clocking of 1:39.84. The foursome shattered the previous school record of 1:49.8 set back in 1981 by Pam Hohler, Sue Tyler, Regina Knotts, and Laura Fauser.
Also for the Hens, Caruso was 12th in the 200 meters (25.18), Cox was 20th in the 500 meters (1:19.24), Mandrachia was 33rd in the 800 meters (2:17.94), Dupiche was 41st in the 200 meters (26.01) and 42nd in the 400 meters (57.71), Hollis was 44th in the 400 meters (59.15) and 58th in the 200 meters (26.60), and Wright finished 54th in the 800 meters (2:21.06).
Delaware will continue action this weekend, Feb. 12, when the Blue Hens head back to the New York City Armory to take part in the Lafayette/Rider Invitational.
