UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Senior Cristine Marquez and freshman Vicky Caruso led the way for the University of Delaware women’s indoor track and field squad Saturday as the pair combined for three top 10 finishes and each posted ECAC qualifying times at the Penn State Northeast Challenge Meet at Ashenfelter Track.

Marquez and Caruso teamed to lead the Blue Hens to a seventh place showing in the 4 x 400 meter relay while Marquez was ninth in the 400 meters and 10th in the 200 meters and Caruso was 10th in the 400 meters and 12th in the 200 meters. Each also qualified for the ECAC Championships to be held later this winter in the 200 meters, 400 meters, and 4 x 400 meter relay and Caruso’s time of 25.04 in the 200 meters set a new school freshman record.

Delaware posted 16 top 20 finishes for the meet, which included some of the top programs in the East.

The Blue Hens had their best finish in the distance medley relay as the team of Kellyn Wright, Asia Hollis, Yesenia Boynton, and Karen Mandrachia ran to a time of 12:53.01 to place fifth overall. In the other relay, Delaware’s 4 x 400 meter group of Marquez, Nijah Dupiche, Caruso, and Kristi Cox finished seventh overall with an ECAC qualifying time of 3:51.29.

Marquez was ninth in the 400 meters (56.54) and 10th in the 200 meters (24.98) while Caruso was 10th in the 400 meters (56.58) and 12th in the 200 meters. Her time of 25.04 in the 200 meters broke the previous UD freshman record of 25.35 by Kayla Hennessy in 2008.

Also for the Hens, Alison Zukowski was 13th in the 3,000 meters (10:44.83), Christine Sloat was 14th in the 3,000 meters (10:45.50), Nijah Dupiche was 14th in the 400 meters (58.39) and 27th in the 200 meters (25.93), Kristi Cox was 14th in the 500 meters (1:18.20), Leeann Seiwell was 17th in the 3,000 meters (10:56.71), Katherine Deinert was 18th in the 3,000 meters (10:59.24), Jillian Seamon was 19th in the long jump (15-3/4), Karen Mandrachia was 19th in the mile (5:16.17), Yesenia Boynton was 20th in the 800 meters (2:28.01), and Kellyn Wright was 20th in the mile (5:17.08).

The Blue Hens will compete in three meets next weekend and will head to the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University at Albany in New York City, to the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College, and to the John Covert Classic at Lehigh.
