Delaware Falls to
JMU 16-7 in Women's Lacrosse
HARRISONBURG, VA -- James Madison senior Megan
Riley scored five goals and dished out four assists and
broke the school record for career points as the No. 7
ranked Dukes upended No. 16 University of Delaware 16-7 in a
non-league women's lacrosse game Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hens, coming off an 11-9 win over Towson
Wednesday, had a two-game win streak snapped to fall to 2-2
despite two goals each from freshman Ashley Moderacki
(Haverford/Havertown, PA) and sophomore Kate
O'Connell (Mt. de Sales/Columbia, MD). James Madison
improved to 5-1 with its fourth straight win.
James Madison scored the first three goals of the game
and went up 6-2 before the Blue Hens rallied with
consecutive goals by Megan Fortunato and Christy
Buck to cut the lead to 6-4 with 8:20 left to go before
halftime. But the Dukes scored the final two goals of the
half for an 8-4 lead and scored three of the first four of
the second half to put the game away.
Sarah Edwards added a goal and assist, Buck also
assisted on a goal, and Amy Sullivan dished out two
assists for the Blue Hens. Julie Martinez added three goals
for JMU.
JMU's Riley upped her career point total to 202 on 119
goals and 83 assist to break the record of 199 held by Nora
Maguire (1989-92).
The Hens travel to West Chester March 30. The Rams, an
NCAA Tournament participant a year ago, are the No. 1 ranked
team in NCAA Division I.
