Loyola Downs Delaware 15-6 in Women's Lacrosse

NEWARK, DE -- Loyola broke open a close game midway through the first half by scoring eight straight goals on the way to a 15-6 non-league women's lacrosse victory over host University of Delaware Saturday at Rullo Stadium.

Megan Santacroce led the No. 8 ranked Greyhounds (11-3) with a career-high five goals while the No. 13 Blue Hens (10-5) had a four-game win streak snapped despite three goals from Robyn Hill.

Stacey Marlang scored three goals and Suzanne Eyler and Kathleen O'Shea each added two scores for Loyola, which kept it hopes alive for an NCAA Tournament berth. Goalkeeper Tricia Dabrowski posted 13 saves in goal.

The Blue Hens, the America East regular season champions, also got two goals from Sarah Edwards and two assists from Sara Hills but leading scorer Megan Fortunato (30 goals) was held scoreless for the first time this season.

Hill scored two goals two minutes apart to give Delaware a 3-2 lead with 17:52 left in the first half, but it was all Loyola after that. The Greyhounds scored the last eight goals of the half, including two each by Santacroce and O'Shea, to take a 10-3 lead at intermission. They then scored the first goal of the second half to build an insurmountable 11-3 lead. Delaware pulled to within 13-6 with 1:34 left to play.
