NEWARK, DE -- Kim Smith and Tice Burke each scored
goals in overtime to lift No. 5 ranked Princeton University
to a 10-8 victory over No. 15 University of Delaware in a
women's lacrosse game Tuesday at Rullo Stadium.
Princeton, which got four goals from Cristi Samaras and
two from Charlotte Kenworthy, won its second straight to
improve to 7-2 on the season while the Blue Hens (5-3) had a
three-game win streak snapped despite three goals from
Megan Fortunato and two goals from Amy
Sullivan. The Tigers downed Delaware for the 10th
straight time.
Neither team led by more than two goals the entire game.
Princeton took a 4-2 lead at halftime but the Hens scored
three of the first four goals of the second stanza to knot
the score at 5-5 with 22:01 left in regulation.
The game featured two more ties in the final 6:50 of
regulation. Delaware's Robyn Hill tied the score at
7-7 with 6:50 left but Samaras answered three minutes later
off a feed from Burke to put the Tigers back up 8-7.
Delaware's Christy Buck then sent the game into
overtime with a goal with 1:01 left.
Smith scored just 29 seconds into the first three-minute
overtime and Burke scored 55 seconds into the second
overtime to lift the Tigers to the victory.
Laurie Tortorelli posted nine saves for the Blue
Hens while Amber Mettler had six saves for Princeton.
Delaware will put its 17-game America East win streak on
