Game
NEWARK, DE - The University of
Delaware women's lacrosse team celebrated the first home
night game in school history as the No. 13 ranked Blue Hens
led from start to finish in a 13-7 win over Temple Tuesday
evening at Rullo Stadium.
The Blue Hens (11-5), who won for the
fifth time in the last six games, were playing their final
regular season game before heading to the America East
Championships this weekend at Hofstra University where they
will be the top seed.
The Owls, who were playing their ninth
Top 20 opponent, fell to 6- 10 on the season. The game was
the first women's lacrosse night game in the 2,000 seat
stadium which was built last fall.
The two teams were playing for the first
time since 1992 with the Blue Hens snapping a 10-game losing
streak. Delaware's last win over Temple was a 10-7 win in
the 1983 NCAA title game.
Sarah Edwards led Delaware with
three goals and an assist while Christy Buck, Amy
Sullivan, and Toni Leidy each scored twice.
Megan Fortunato dished out three assists. Nicole Ross
led Temple with four goals while Jennifer McClay had two and
Noelle Cebron had a goal and three assists.
Delaware jumped out to a 3-0 lead and
never looked back, taking a 5-2 advantage into intermission.
Temple cut the lead to 6-3 early in the second stanza, but
the Hens countered with three straight goals and were never
threatened again.
