Fortunato's Late Goals Lifts UD Women's
Lax Over Vandy

NASHVILLE, TN -- Sophomore Megan Fortunato scored a career-high six goals, dished out two assists, and scored the game-winning goal with just 52 seconds left to play to lift the University of Delaware to a 12-11 women's lacrosse win over host Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon.

The No. 17 ranked Blue Hens (5-2) also got three goals from Amy Sullivan to post their third straight win. The No. 14 ranked Commodores dropped to 4-6 with their third straight loss despite four goals each from April Tellam and Kristin Ehst. Tellam also had two assists.

Fortunato (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland HS), last week's America East Player of the Week, reached a career-high with six goals, surpassing her previous best of four vs. Richmond last season. Her eight points was the most by a Delaware player since Laura Perry had four goals and four assists vs. Vermont in 1996.

Sarah Edwards had two assists and Christy Buck added a goal and an assist to pace the Blue Hens.

Neither team led by more than two goals the entire game. Delaware took a 7-6 lead at halftime but the second half featured three ties. Vanderbilt answered a Fortunato goal to tie the score at 9-9 with 16:47 left and got two goals a minute apart from Caroline Mans and Tellam to tie the score at 11-11 with 7:27 remaining. Neither team scored again until Fortunato tallied her third goal of the\ half with 52 seconds left to play.
