NEWARK, DE -- Junior Ashley Moderacki scored three goals and junior goalkeeper Laurie Tortorelli was outstanding in goal with 14 saves as the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team stayed tied for first place in the America East standings with a 9-7 upset win over No. 15 ranked Boston University Saturday at Rullo Stadium.

Moderacki (Haverford/Havertown, PA), Delaware's leading scorer with 25 goals on the season, tallied twice in the second half to help the Blue Hens (5-7, 3-0) stay in front against the defending America East champions.

The Hens, who had entered the game having lost six of its last seven games, remained tied for first place in the America East standings with New Hampshire (3-0, 7-3) and Hofstra (2-0, 9-1). Delaware will host New Hampshire, a 16-6 winner over Towson Saturday, Monday at 3 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.

Boston University (7-5, 3-1), which lost for the third time in the last four outings, dropped an America East game for the first time since falling to Delaware 15-8 in the 1999 league title game, snapping a streak of 11 straight wins. Gabby Juocys and Kyle Rutkowski each scored two goals for the Terriers but BU's leading scorer, Chrissy Lombard, was held to just one goal on four shots. Lombard leads BU with 33 goals this season and had become the school's all-time leading goal scorer (166) with six in Thursday's win over Towson.

Junior Corinne Shuck (Broadneck/Annapolis, MD) added two goals and one assist for the Hens while senior Kate O'Connell (Mt. de Sales/Columbia, MD) scored once and dished out three assists. Senior Liz Walton (Upper Dublin/Willow Grove, PA) also chipped in with one goal and one assist for the Hens. Tortorelli (Haverford/Havertown, PA) was outstanding in goal, stopping several big shots in the late going. Her 14 saves was her second highest total in a game this season.

Delaware took a 3-1 lead on Moderacki's first goal 7:24 into the game, but Boston University scored three straight of its own, including two by Rutkowski, to take its only lead of the game at 4-3 with 13:40 left in the first half.

The Blue Hens responded with four straight goals and never looked back to post the win. Walton tied the score at 4-4 with 12:11 left and Shuck netted the eventual game-winner just 42 seconds later. The Hens led 7-5 at the half.

Moderacki's third goal of the game with 16:56 left to play gave UD a 9-5 lead before Lombard scored her only goal with 11:54 left and Juocys scored with 2:54 remaining for the Terriers.
