May 4, 2002 Nittany Lions Spoil Senior Day for Blue Hens
NEWARK, DE -- Junior Colleen O'Hara scored all of her game-high five goals in the first half and assisted on two other Penn State goals in the second stanza as the 17th ranked Nittany Lions downed the University of Delaware 13-9 in the women's lacrosse season finale for both squads Saturday afternoon at Rullo Stadium. Delaware, which got two goals each from sophomore Michelle Campolettano (St. Anthony's/Massapequa, Park, NY), senior Corinne Shuck (Broadneck/Annapolis,MD), sophomore Shannon Kron (Maryvale Prep/Baltimore, MD), and junior Morgan Clute (Loch Raven/Towson, MD), dropped its third straight game and finished the season with a record of 4-12, setting a school record for losses in a season. Shuck, who finished the season as Delaware's leading scorer with 35 goals, posted her 13th multiple goal game of the season and upped her career point total to 97. Clute scored a career-high two goals for the Hens after entering the game having scored just once in her career. Delaware goalkeeper Laurie Tortorelli (Haverford/Havertown, PA) closed out an outstanding career with five saves to finish third all-time at Delaware with 737. Penn State, which won its second straight game and improved to 4-0 vs. Colonial Athletic Association opponents this season, finished the 2002 season at 8-9. B.J. Lucey added three goals and two assists, Katie Jeschke contributed to two goals and an assist, and Jamie Donahue scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the Nittany Lions. Penn State freshman netminder Lee Tortorelli, Laurie's sister, posted the win with 12 saves. O'Hara, Penn State's leading scorer with 46 goals, opened the scoring just 3:22 into the contest but the Blue Hens came right back just 19 seconds later on a goal by freshman Erin Edell (Glenelg/Glenelg, MD) to knot the score at 1-1. But Penn State followed with four straight goals, two by O'Hara, to go up 5-1 and later took a 7-4 lead into intermission. Although the Nittany Lions scored the first three goals of the second half, including two by Jeschke to go up 10-4, Delaware never gave up. The Blue Hens cut the lead to 10-7 at the 20:16 mark on a goal by Clute, but Penn State responded with two goals for a 12-7 margin. Again the Blue Hens came back, cutting the lead to 12-9 on a goal by Campolettano with 5:32 left, but that was the end of their scoring. AGATE: Penn
