Tigers Jump Out to 9-0 Lead on Way to Big Win over Hens

Shannon Kron scored two goals for the Blue Hens

PRINCETON, NJ -- Lauren Simone and Charlotte Kenworthy combined to score five of Princeton's first seven goals as the No. 2 ranked Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead and cruised to a 17-6 women's lacrosse victory over the University of Delaware Wednesday night at Class of 1952 Stadium.

The Blue Hens, playing their fourth straight Top 20 team, lost their school record sixth straight game to fall to 2-7 on the season while Princeton improved to 8-1. The Tigers have now defeated the Blue Hens in each of the last 13 meetings.

Delaware will try to put a stop to the losing streak Friday night at Rullo Stadium as the Blue Hens take on another Ivy League foe in the University of Pennsylvania at 7 p.m.

Kenworthy and Simone each finished with a team-high four goals and also added an assist while Kim Smith chipped in with three goals and two assists and Tara Hardiman contributed two goals and two assists.

Sophomore Shannon Kron (Maryvale Prep/Baltimore, MD) and senior Corinne Shuck (Broadneck/Annapolis, MD) each scored two goals to lead the Blue Hens. Freshman Erin Edell and junior Nikki Kucharski scored the other UD goals.

Delaware played its first game without leading scorer and 2001 All- Region midfielder Ashley Moderacki (Haverford/Havertown, PA), who suffered a season-ending knee ligament injury Monday night in practice. Moderacki, a senior co-captain, had scored a team-leading 22 goals and four assists this season and needed just two points to reach 100 for her career.

Princeton jumped out to a 9-0 lead against the Blue Hens and never looked back. Simone scored twice in the first three minutes of the game and Kenworthy added two goals in a span of 10 seconds to highlight the early action. Delaware did not score its first goal until Edell scored with 12:51 left in the opening half. The Tigers eventually took a 10-2 halftime lead.

The Hens scored four straight goals, two each by Shuck and Kron, to cut the Princeton lead to 14-6 with 9:25 left in the second half, but could never get closer.
