Cornell Defeats
Hens Behind Quinn's Five Goals

Cornell University ran out to a 10-0 halftime lead and never
looked back in overwhelming host University of Delaware 19-4
in a non-league women's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon at
Rullo Stadium

The Big Red, who remained undefeated at 4-0,
got goals from 10 different players led by five goals from
Jamie Quinn on the way to the victory. Cornell has now
outscored its four opponents this season by a 64-20
margin.
Delaware, coming off a 12-8 win over
Towson in its Colonial Athletic Association opener Sunday,
was held scoreless for the first 39 minutes of the game and
fell to 2-4 on the season. Cornell, which advanced to the
NCAA semifinals a year ago, was Delaware's fourth straight
opponent that entered the game against the Hens unbeaten.
The 19 goals were the most allowed by the Hens since a 19-3
setback to Maryland in 1996 and the 15-goal margin was the
largest in a loss for the Hens since that same
game.
Shannon Kron scored two of
Delaware's goals, including the team's first with 20:50 left
to play that cut the lead to 12-1. Erin Edell added a
goal and an assist and Becky Rausa tallied one
goal.
Sarah Averson and Lyndsay Steinberg each
tallied three goals, Kristen Smith came off the bench to
score twice and dish an assist, and starting goalkeeper
Ashley Charron turned back six shots in the Big Red
victory.
Cornell, which outshot the Hens 36-15,
got two goals from Averson in the first 15 minutes of action
on the way to a 4-0 lead. Things stayed quiet until the
final seven minutes of the opening half when Cornell scored
six goals in that span to take a 10-0 lead into
intermission. Quinn scored three times in a span of just
under three minutes to lead the way.
The Big Red upped the lead to 12-0 as
Quinn and Steinberg scored early in the second stanza before
Kron finally put the Hens on the board with a goal off a
feed from Edell with 20:50 remaining. Rausa and Kron scored
consecutive goals to cut the lead to 13-3 with 16:11 left,
but the Big Red tallied three times in the final minute of
play.
