Delaware 10, Hofstra 8 March 29, 2003 Freshmen Cellucci, Hager Lead the Way as Hens Stay Atop CAA Standings   Shannon Kron had a goal and an assist HEMPSTEAD, NY -- The University of Delaware women's lacrosse squad remained tied for the lead atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a 10-8 CAA win over host Hofstra University Saturday at Shuart Stadium. The Blue Hens (4-4, 3-0 CAA) erupted for eight second half goals to break a 2-2 halftime tie and win their second straight and third in the last four outings. Delaware, which got a career-high three goals from freshman Kristin Cellucci (Springfield/Springfield, PA) and two more from freshman Megan Hager (Conestoga/Berwyn, PA), is now off to a 3-0 start in league play for the fifth time in the last six seasons. Cellucci and Hager each added assists and Shannon Kron (Maryvale Prep/Baltimore, MD) chipped in with one goal and one assist as the Blue Hens scored on 10 of their 21 shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Patrice Hughes (Springfield/Springfield, PA) led the defensive effort with 11 saves. The Hens, who now share the CAA lead with Old Dominion (3-0), have defeated the Pride 13 times in 16 meetings all-time. Hofstra got four goals from Kathleen Mikowski while Becky Thorn added two goals. Cellucci scored the first two goals of the game to spot the Hens a 2-0 lead but Delaware would not score again in the first half as the teams played to a 2-2 tie at the break. The second half was a high-scoring one as the teams combined for 14 goals. Hofstra went up 5-3 early as Thorn scored with 20:30 left to play. But the Hens reeled off the next five goals as five different players tallied, including Cellucci, to take the lead for good at 8-5 with 13:10 left to play. Mikowski scored twice in a five-minute span to cut the lead to 9-7 with 6:21 left, but Hager answered two minutes later to give the Blue Hens some breathing room.
