Delaware 12, Drexel 11 April 2, 2004 Blue Hens Down Dragons for First CAA Win Game Boxscore NEWARK, DE -- Freshman attack Jenny Diana (Burke, VA/Robinson) scored her second hat trick of the season, including the game-tying and game-winning goals in the final 12 minutes of the second half to give the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team a 12-11 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Drexel Friday night at rainy Rullo Stadium. Delaware (3-6, 1-1 CAA) snapped a three-game losing streak with its 11th straight win over the Dragons. The Blue Hens own a 19-1 all-time record over Drexel, which fell to 6-2 (0-1 CAA) in its conference opener and breaking its six game winning streak. The Dragons opened the scoring in the first half as Emily Hoesch found the back of the net at 27:12 but Delaware's Diana Hall (Clifton, VA/Centreville) responded just 33 seconds later for the first of eight ties at 26:43. Drexel took a 3-1 lead at 21:08 off two goals from Chrissy Sheehan but Diana would score her first goal of the contest at 19:19 and senior attack Shannon Kron (Baltimore, MD/Maryvale Prep) notched a score at 18:47 to tie the game at 3-3. Drexel led by 6-4 with 2:58 to go in the first stanza of play. Delaware scored two quick goals with under one minute to go in the first half to even the score at 6-6 going in halftime. Junior midfielder Erin Edell scores twice in Blue Hens' first CAA win of the seas Delaware got on the board first in the second half as Hall scored her second goal of the game just 12 seconds into the stanza. Drexel's Kerry Kelly responded at 25:25 to knot the contest at 7-7. Sophomore Megan Hager (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) scored at 24:10 for the Blue Hens but Drexel responded with goals from Nicole Adams and Colleen Rocks at 22:41 and 22:08, respectively, to give the Dragons a 9-8 lead. Junior Erin Edell (Glenelg, MD/Glenelg) knotted the score at 9-9 before Kelly scored again to put the Dragons up one. Diana scored the game-tying goal at 11:23 and then followed it up with the eventual game-winner at 6:16. Junior co-captain Lindsey Greer (Laurel, MD/Hammond) scored her first game of the season to ice the contest for the Blue Hens and up the lead to 12-10 with 4:00 to go. Adams would score again for the Dragons at 1:13 but the Dragons never got the ball back and Delaware ran out the final minute of play en route to its first CAA win of the season. Diana led seven Blue Hens in scoring with three goals, marking the ninth straight game she has notched two points or more. Kron tallied two goals and two assists in the win while senior attack Michelle Campolettano (Massapequa Park, NY/St. Anthony's) scored one goal and two assists. Edell and Hall also scored two goals each. Kelly led the way for the Dragons with three goals and two assists while Rocks notched three goals in the loss. Sophomore Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/Springfield) made a career-high 13 saves in the cage for the Hens while Drexel's goalkeeper Maggie Koch, who entered the game with a league-low 6.63 goals against average, amassed 19 saves, which ranks second best all-time at Rullo Stadium. The Hens outshot the Dragons, 38-34, and held the edge in ground balls, 28-20, and draw controls, 16-8.
