April 16, 2004 Delaware Wins in Decisive Fashion Over CAA Rival ODU NORFOLK, VA - Freshman Jenny Diana (Burke, VA/Robinson) scored a career-high four goals and junior Erin Edell (Glenelg, MD/Glenelg) notched three goals and one assist as the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team ended a three-game losing slide with a solid, 18-10, Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Old Dominion Monarchs Friday afternoon in Norfolk, VA. Delaware, winning its first game since a 12-11 win over Drexel on April 2, improves to 4-10 (2-4 CAA) with the win while the Monarchs lost their sixth straight contest to fall 3-9 (0-5 CAA). Diana led nine Blue Hens in the scoring column with a career-high four goals while Edell scored three goals for the third time this season. Senior Michelle Campolettano (Massapequa Park, NY/St. Anthony's) tallied a season-high three assists and also scored one goal and senior Shannon Kron (Baltimore, MD/Maryvale Prep) registered three goals in the win. Suzanne Wosczyna tallied a game-high six goals and also notched two assists to lead the Monarchs. Delaware jumped to an early 1-0 lead 25 seconds into the first half as sophomore Megan Hager (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) found the back of the net off a dish from Edell. Old Dominion responded with two goals from Wosczyna to take a 2-1 lead at 21:06. Delaware scored five goals unanswered goals, three of which were from Edell, in the next 10 minutes to take 6-2 lead with 10:36 to play in the first half. Wosczyna scored two more goals and Colleen Carver registered one goal or the Monarchs to cut the Delaware lead to 7-5 at the break. The Blue Hens took over in the second half, opening the period with two goals in the first three minutes of play to take a 9-5 lead with 27:04 left. Old Dominion cut the lead to 9-6 as Kelly Kanara connected on a free position opportunity at 24:42. Diana responded just 31 seconds later for her first goal of the second half to put the Hens up, 10-6. Carver cut the Blue Hen lead to 10-7 with 22:31 but that was as close as it got for the Monarchs as Delaware went on to out-score the Monarchs 8-3 in the final 20 minutes of play. Sophomore Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/Springfield) played 55:20 in the cage for Delaware, making seven saves and picking up her fourth win of the season. The Blue Hens return to action on Sunday, April 18 as they continue their weekend road trip with a key CAA match-up against William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. Game time is at noon.
