Straight Goals to Rally for Win over
Hens
 NEWARK,
DE -- The University of Pennsylvania spoiled the
University of Delaware's home opener in women's lacrosse
Wednesday night as the Quakers scored 10 unanswered goals in
the second half to shock the Blue Hens for a 15-12
non-league victory at Rullo Stadium.
Delaware (1-1), coming off a
season-opening 11-7 win over Mt. St. Mary's Saturday, built
a 10-5 lead five minutes into the second half Wednesday vs.
Penn, only to see the Quakers (1-1) reel off 10 straight
goals to take command of the game.
Kristen Cellucci (#10 at
right) led the Blue Hens with three goals and one assist
while Shannon Kron added two goals and an assist
and Jenny Diana and Diana Hall each chipped in
with two goals. The loss denied Delaware head coach
Denise Wescott of her 100th career victory with the
Blue Hens.
For Penn, Chrissy Muller scored a
game-high five goals while Lindsey Cassidy and Emily Cochran
each scored four times and Ali Ryan added two goals and an
assist. Cochran scored all four of her goals during the
Quaker's pivotal 10-0 run.
Six different players scored a goal in
the first half as the Blue Hens took a 6-5 lead into
intermission. A three-goal spurt in the first 12 minutes
helped the Blue Hens gain the lead after Penn got on the
board first on a goal by Muller just four minutes into the
contest.
Delaware came out strong in the second
half as Cellucci scored twice and Erin Edell and
Diana each added a single goal in the first five minutes of
action for a 10-5 Blue Hen lead with 25:07 left.
But Delaware wouldn't score again for
another 22 minutes as Penn reeled off 10 straight goals,
including four by Cochran, two by Ryan, and two by Cassidy.
The Quakers tied the score at 10-10 on a goal by Cassidy
with 11:12 left to play and went ahead for good when Cochran
scored her second goal of the game with 9:20
remaining.
The Hens finally got back on the board in
the closing minutes as Kron scored with 2:58 left and Hall
scored with 1:48 remaining but it wasn't enough to upend the
Quakers.
