19 James Madison

HARRISONBURG,
VA - The No. 20 University of Delaware
women's lacrosse team upset No. 19 James
Madison, the two time defending Colonial
Athletic Association champ, 12-10 on
Friday afternoon in Harrisonburg. The Blue
Hens snap a two game losing streak while
defeating James Madison for the first time
since the 2000 season.
Delaware
(5-4, 2-2 CAA) received four goals from
senior Erin Edell (Glenelg, MD/
Glenelg-right), sophomore Laura Miller
(Morton, PA/ Ridley/ Penn State)
contributed three goals on the afternoon,
while junior Laura Libertini (Parkton, MD/
Mt. de Sales) and sophomore Katie Muth
(Ellicott City, MD/ Seton Keough) each
added two goals apiece. Muth tied junior
Megan Hager (Berwyn, PA/ Conestoga) for
top assists honors on the afternoon as
each player dished out two helpers. Junior
Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/
Springfield) made a season-high 11 saves
between the pipes for the Blue
Hens.
James
Madison (6-5, 1-2 CAA) received three
goals from Jessica Brownridge while Kelly
Berger and Brooke McKenzie each added two
goals apiece. Berger had a game-high three
assists while Amy Altig made 11 saves in
net for the Dukes in her 53 minutes of
work while Livvy King made one save in
just under seven minutes.
James
Madison held an early 6-1 lead in the game
before Delaware scored five goals in the
final seven minutes of the first half to
make the score 7-6 in favor of James
Madison at halftime. During that stretch
the Blue Hens received two goals from
Edell.
Delaware
opened the second half scoring as the Blue
Hens sandwiched back to back goals from
Muth around a James Madison goal. The Blue
Hens then held James Madison without a
goal from 18:23 until 2:06 of the second
half while scoring four goals of their own
during that run to give themselves the
advantage and the eventual victory.
James
Madison outshot the Blue Hens 25-23 while
Delaware held a 28-20 advantage in
groundballs for the day.
The Blue
Hens will return to action on Sunday
afternoon when they travel to Fairfax, VA
for a game with CAA foe George
Mason.
