Delaware Dominates Second Half for 14-7 Victory Over Mt. St. Mary's

NEWARK, DE (March 18, 2005) - Senior Erin Edell (Glenelg, MD/ Glenelg-right) scored four goals on the night, recording her eighth career hat trick and third of the season, as the No. 20 University of Delaware women's lacrosse team scored seven unanswered goals to start the second half on the way to a 14-7 win over Mt. St. Mary's on Friday night at Rullo Stadium.

Delaware won its second straight game and improved to 3-1 on the season. The Blue Hens received two goals apiece from Katie Muth (Ellicott City, MD/ Seton Keough), Casey McCrudden (Voorhees, NJ/ Eastern), and Stephanie McQuade (Doylestown, PA/ C. B. West). Becky Rausa (Fallston, MD/ Forest Hill) added a goal and two assists on the night while Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/ Springfield) made nine saves in net for the Blue Hens.

Mt. St. Mary's(2-4) received two goals a piece from Erin LaMotte and Jenna Duffy while Naomi Campano Radio made nine stops in net for the Mountaineers.

The first half saw the two teams trade goals over the first seven minutes of the game. Down 3-2 at 13:44, the Mountaineers scored three straight goals over three minutes to go up 5-3. Delaware scored two goals in the final nine minutes to tie it at 5-5 just before the half.

Delaware came out of the break and recorded the first seven goals of the second half to go up 12-5 with 10:14 remaining in the game. During that stretch, the Blue Hens received two goals from the sophomore Muth. Mt. St. Mary's tallied its first goal of the half at 7:55, breaking a 33- minute scoreless streak as the Mountaineers went from 10:42 of the first half to 7:55 of the second half without scoring a goal.

Delaware held a 30-22 advantage in shots and a 22-19 edge in groundballs.

The Blue Hens will return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to the University of Pennsylvania for a game at 4 p.m.
