No. 17 Delaware Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 10 Penn State, 15-6 in Season Finale

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The No. 17 University of Delaware women's lacrosse team received a hat trick from senior Erin Edell (Glenelg, MD/ Glenelg-right), the tenth hat trick of her career, but it was not enough as the Blue Hens fell to No. 10 Penn State in their season finale on Saturday afternoon in University Park.

The Blue Hens (8-8), who dropped their third straight game, received the hat trick from Edell and two goals from freshman Casey McCrudden (Voorhees, NJ/ Eastern) while junior Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/ Springfield) and freshman Jess Dibelka (Bel Air, MD/ C. Milton Wright) combined to make seven saves in net.

Penn State (12-4) received five goals from Kristen Burke, three goals apiece from Lori Havrilla and Shari Maslin while Karen Long and Jessi Lieb each added two goals apiece. Havrilla added two assists on the day while Lee Tortorelli made nine saves in net.

Delaware scored the first goal of the game before Penn State jumped out to an early 2-1 lead. Edell scored the first of her three goals on the afternoon at 23:23 to tie the game at 2-2 but that was the last time the Blue Hens would score in the first half. Penn State closed out the first half by scoring six unanswered goals to take a 8-2 lead at intermission.

Penn State opened the second half by scoring two more goals before Edell scored her second goal of the game. The Nittany Lions then went on a 4-0 run to take a 14-3 advantage in the game. The Blue Hens did manage to score three of the last four goals in the game to make the final score 15-6.

Penn State outshot the Blue Hens 36-24 and held a 23-20 advantage in groundballs for the game.

Today was the final game for seniors Edell, Allison Lynch (Annapolis, MD/ St. Mary's), Lindsey Greer (Laurel, MD/ Hammond), Kelly O'Connor (Woodbine, MD/ Glenelg), and Becky Rausa (Fallston, MD/ Forest Hill).
