20 Delaware Scores First 12 Goals on Way
to 21-4 Win over Villanova

Sophomore Katie Muth (Ellicott City, MD/
Seton Keough) scored a career-high four
goals and four other Blue Hens added a hat
trick as the No. 20 University of Delaware
women's lacrosse team picked up a 21-4 win
over Villanova on Wednesday afternoon at
Rullo Stadium.
The
Blue Hens scored the most goals in a game
and recorded their largest winning margin
since defeating Vermont, 21-2 in
2000.
Delaware
wasted little time in getting on the
scoreboard as freshman Casey McCrudden
(Voorhees, NJ/ Eastern) scored her second
goal of the year at 28:34, and less than
five minutes later junior Kristen Cellucci
(Springfield, PA/ Springfield-right)
scored her first goal of the year off a
free position shot.
Senior
Erin Edell (Glenelg, MD/ Glenelg) scored
her team-leading sixth goal of the year
off a pass from Cellucci at 22:05, and
Laura Miller (Morton, PA/ Ridley/ Penn
State) scored just 20 seconds later to put
the Blue Hens up 4-0. Katie Hogan
(Farmingdale, NY/ Farmingdale), Muth, and
Becky Rausa (Fallston, MD/ Forest Hill)
each added a goal over the next three
minutes to increase the Blue Hen lead to
7-0, and after sophomore Stephanie McQuade
(Doylestown, PA/ C.B. West) added back to
back goals at 17:49 and 15:52, Muth scored
her second goal of the day.
Rausa
and McCrudden added their second goals of
the game to give Delaware a 12-0 lead with
11:29 to go in the first half. Becky
Gardner finally got Villanova on the board
at 10:30 before Edell scored her second
goal of the game to make the score 13-1 at
the half.
Muth
scored her third goal of the game less
than a minute into the second half before
Gardner tallied her second goal of the day
for the Wildcats. Just over eight minutes
later Muth scored her career-high fourth
goal of the afternoon, and Hogan added her
second and third goals of the game
sandwiched around McCrudden's third of the
day, to increase the Blue Hen lead to 17-2
with 14 minutes remaining in the game.
McQuade
would later add a goal for her first
career hat trick while Edell posted her
seventh career hat trick and second of the
season with a goal at 5:30. Emmy Schaaf
(West Chester, PA/ Henderson) scored the
final tally for Delaware with a goal at
4:06, while Villanova received goals from
Kathleen Kelly and Amy Rocap in the final
two minutes of the game.
McQuade
finished the day with six points on three
goals and three assists while Cellucci
recorded five points on a goal and four
assists. Edell and Rausa each recorded
four points for the Blue Hens.
Goalkeeper
Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/
Springfield) made four saves in 53:30 for
the Blue Hens while Jess Dibelka (Bel Air,
MD/ C. Milton Wright) made no saves in her
six and a half minutes of work. Jess
Brozena made one save for the Wildcats
while Lauren Latchford notched eight saves
for Villanova.
The
Blue Hens outshot the Wildcats, 42-10 and
held a 29-16 advantage in ground
balls.
The
Blue Hens will return to action on Friday
night when they host Mt. St. Mary's at 7
p.m.
