FAIRFAX, VA -- Freshman Courtney Aburn scored four goals and Nicole Flego (at right) added three goals and three assists as 20th ranked University of Delaware topped George Mason, 15-11, in a Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse game at George Mason Stadium Friday evening.

The Blue Hens (6-3, 2-0 CAA) won their fifth straight game as freshman Aburn, Flego, and Emily Schaknowski combined for nine of Delaware’s 15 goals. Casey McCrudden, Katie Muth, and Debbie Sloan each tallied two goals as the Hens extended their longest win streak since the start of the 2000 season when Delaware won eight straight.

George Mason (5-4, 0-1), which had won two straight games, dropped its CAA opener despite getting three goals and an assist from sophomore attacker Brittany Berger.

Delaware started the game quickly as the Blue Hens scored the first four goals of the game and held George Mason scoreless for the first 15 minutes. Aburn got the Blue Hens on the board at the 25:28 mark and Flego followed with back-to-back goals just two minutes apart. McCrudden added her first goal of the game to give the Hens a 4-0 lead before Berger got the Patriots on the board at the 14:52 mark. Berger was followed by a Melissa Curry goal to cut Delaware’s lead to 4-2, but the Hens would score the next four goals to go into the break up 8-2.

George Mason scored the first three goals of the second period to cut into the Delaware lead but the Patriots would never get closer than three goals. Delaware goalkeeper Jessica Cerveny recorded her second most saves of the season as she stopped 12 George Mason shots. Sara Longobucco made six saves for the Patriots.

The Blue Hens will remain on the road as they travel to No. 6 James Madison Sunday at 1 p.m.
