The IWLCA recognized 407 student-athletes at 152 institutions for their excellence in the classroom during the 2008-09 academic year.

Ange Gaeta, a 2009 University of Delaware graduate, and current senior Morgan Marino served as the Blue Hens’ honorees.

Gaeta (on left) graduated in May earning a degree in Exercise Physiology. The Parkton, Md. native started each of Delaware’s 18 games and tallied 24 ground balls while forcing 15 caused turnovers in helping the Hens to a second-place Colonial Athletic Association finish.

Marino (on right), an attacker, is double-majoring in English and History. Throughout her junior season, Marino played in nine games, starting three, to tally two goals and three assists.

Delaware was joined by Hofstra University, James Madison University and Towson University in representing the CAA. The four squads combined to have 14 student-athletes honored for their academic achievements.

All student-athletes were nominated by their institutions and have attained at least junior standing academically. Nominees considered had a GPA of 3.5 or higher or were in the top 10 percent of their team. Included in the list of honorees were the IWLCA Scholar-Athletes of the Year: Anna Ford from Elizabethtown College, Julie Kraus from Southern New Hampshire University, and Kristin Schwab from Princeton University.
