RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman Stephanie Allen (at right) split Colonial Athletic Association women’s lacrosse Co-Rookie of the Week honors with Old Dominion’s Sarah Geary for the week ending Apr. 5, the conference office announced today.
Allen (Montgomery, N.Y./Pine Bush HS) scored two goals against Old Dominion, including the game-winner which she bounced past Geary with two seconds left in regulation, and then scored six goals to lead the Blue Hens past William & Mary for the first time since the 2007 season.
Allen’s six goals was the most by a Delaware player since Casey McCrudden posted six goals against St. Bonaventure on Mar. 21, 2007. It was also the most goals by a Delaware rookie since Meghan Mulqueen scored seven against Hofstra on Mar. 25, 1989. Allen has now scored at least one goal in the last six games for the Blue Hens.
For the week, she scored eight goals on 13 shots, scooped up eight groundballs and won four draw controls, helping Delaware to win both of its CAA contests against Old Dominion (9-8) and William & Mary (15-11).
So far in her rookie campaign, Allen ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 15 points on a team-leading 13 goals and two assists. She has played in nine games this season, cracking the starting line-up for the first time on Sunday against William & Mary.
The Blue Hens next take the field on Friday when they visit CAA foe Drexel at 6 p.m. in Philadelphia.
