GRAND LAKE, Colo. -- University of Delaware midfield standout Emily Schaknowski was one of 40 selected by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association to play in the North-South Senior All-Star Game set for noon on Saturday, June 12, at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa.

One of five Colonial Athletic Association players chosen to play in the contest, the Wading River, N.Y. native was the lone CAA athlete named to the North squad.

James Madison head coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe was selected to coach the South All-Stars and will have three of her players on the team. Midfielder Kim Griffin, goalkeeper Morgan Kelly, and defender Susan Lines were selected to play on the South team, along with William and Mary attacker Mary Zulty.

Schaknowski, a 2010 Second Team All-CAA choice, has been honored by the league each of her four years of competition. The midfielder was named to the All-Rookie team as a freshman, to the First Team as a sophomore and most recently to the Second Team her junior and senior campaigns.

Having dished out a team-high 12 assists this season, Schaknowski moved into a three-way tie for fifth place all-time in the Blue Hen record books having tallied 69 assists throughout her illustrious career.

Schaknowski, who played in each of Delaware’s 16 contests this year and started 12, notched seven points in a four-goal, three-assist performance at Old Dominion to lead UD to a 12-11 double overtime victory on April 18. The four-year starter recorded three goals and five assists this season against ranked opponents.

Scoring 15 goals and adding 12 assists throughout 2010, the midfielder tallied the third-highest point count on the team. Schaknowski also added 19 groundballs, four caused turnovers and three draw controls for Delaware. Named to the 2010 Tewaaraton National Player of the Year Trophy Pre-Season Watch List, Schaknowski finalized her career having played in 67 games, making 62 starts, scoring 82 goals and adding 69 assists for 151 points. With 151 career points Schaknowski ranks 15th in the Delaware all-time record books.

The tri-captain scooped up 92 ground balls, won 81 draw controls and scored on 21 of 73 free position attempts over the course of her four-year career.

Delaware finished the season at 6-10 overall and 3-4 in conference action. The Hens closed out the year on a high note with a late come-from-behind 12-11 victory over local CAA rival, Drexel. With the victory, sixth year head coach Kim Ciarrocca, who announced her retirement prior to the season, was successful in ending her Delaware coaching stint with a winning record of 51-50.
