Quant Wins Long Jump, Capsouras Sets Freshman Hurdles Record for Delaware at Tuppeny Twilight Meet

VILLANOVA, PA -- Asha Quant (at right) captured the women’s long jump, Brittany Wright was second in the women’s 100 meters, and Brad Dodson claimed a second place finish in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase to lead the University of Delaware at the Tuppeny Twilight Outdoor Track and Field Meet hosted by Villanova Monday evening at Villanova Stadium.

The limited event, non-scoring meet was delayed one hour due to storms before being completed. The meet included several area teams from the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels. A total of 11 Blue Hen athletes competed in the meet.

Both Delaware teams will close out the season May 26-27 at the NCAA East Regionals at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro. Casey Bennett will compete in the women’s pole vault while Chris Dixon will take part in the men’s 400 meter hurdles.

Quant was Delaware’s lone winner on Monday night as she captured the long jump title with a leap of 18-feet, 4-inches.

Also for the Delaware women, Brittany Wright was second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.61, Alexi Capsouras placed third in the 400 meter hurdles with a career-best and second fastest time in UD history in 1:03.44, Sari Weissbard was 11th in the 1,500 meters in 4:52.0, and Laura Heenan was 19th in the 1,500 meters with a clocking of 5:07.82.

For the Delaware men, Dodson was the Hens’ top finisher as he placed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:13.7, a personal best and the fourth best time in school history.

Also for Delaware, Gregg Cantwell was seventh in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:58.2), Tyler Mayforth was eighth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:00.0), Ryan McGlensey was eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (57.45), Mike Hazeltine was 17th in the 5,000 meters (15:54.48), and Kevin Kemmerle was 18th in the 5,000 meters (15:55.89).

Delaware Men’s Competitors: 2nd Place - Brad Dodson, 3,000m steeplechase (9:13.7); 7th - Gregg Cantwell, 3,000m steeplechase (9:58.2); 8th - Tyler Mayforth, 3,000m steeplechase (10:00.0), Ryan McGlensey, 400m hurdles (57.45); 17th - Mike Hazeltine, 5,000m (15:54.48); 18th - Kevin Kemmerle, 5,000m (15:55.89).
