University of Delaware Track & Field Athletes Earn All-Colonial Athletic Association Honors

RICHMOND, VA -- Six members of the 2007 University of Delaware outdoor track and field teams have been honored by the Colonial Athletic Association for their peformances at the CAA Championships April 20-21 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.

Blue Hen women standouts Cristine Marquez, Asha Quant, Amanda Marshall (at right), and Laura Chirico and men standouts Chase Renoll and Jared Wasser each earned CAA All-Conference honors for placing third or higher in their respective events.

In addition to the All-CAA teams, the CAA also announced its post-season award winners. UNC Wilmington’s Anna Raynor and George Mason’s Murielle Ahoure were named Co-Female Athletes of the Year; William & Mary’s Keith Bechtol was named Male Athlete of the Year; George Mason’s Tiara Swindell was named Female Rookie of the Year; George Mason’s Michael Pachella was named Male Rookie of the Year; Northeastern’s Sherman Hart was named CAA Female Sport Coach of the Year; and UNC Wilmington’s Jim Sprecher was named CAA Male Sport Coach of the Year.

Marquez, a freshman from Old Bridge, NJ (Old Bridge High School), placed second in the 400 meters at the CAA Championships with a school record time of 55.34; Marshall, a sophomore from Cranbury, NJ (Hightstown HS), was second in the discus throw with a school record distance of 144-4; Quant, a junior from Willingboro, NJ (Holy Cross HS), finished third in the long jump with a school record leap of 19-8; and Chirico, a sophomore from Dayton, NJ (South Brunswick HS), was third in the pole vault with a leap of 11-5 3/4.

Wasser, a senior from North Potomac, MD (Wootton HS), earned All-CAA honors in two events as he placed second in both the hammer with a toss of 155-11 and in the shot put with a throw of 53 3/4. Renoll, a freshman from York, PA (Spring Grove HS), finished third in the shot put with a distance of 50-5 3/4.
