WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- Cristine Marquez (at right) placed second in the women’s 400 meters and Jared Wasser placed fourth in the men’s shot put to lead the University of Delaware outdoor track and field teams at the first day of the Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary at Zable Stadium Friday.
The Delaware women currently rank 11th in the 19-team field while the Blue Hen men are 15th out of 17 teams. The second and final day of the meet will begin Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Marquez, who set the UD record in the 400 meters in her most recent outing last week at Winthrop, almost broke the mark again and posted a time of 55.82 in the event to place second overall, less than a second off her Delaware standard of 55.74.
Also for the Delaware women, Amanda Marshall was eighth in the hammer (41.13 meters), Asha Quant was ninth in the 200 meters (25.44), Alexi Capsouras was ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.42) and 12th in the 110 meter hurdles (15.03), Stephanie Cronk was 11th in the javelin (34.36m) and 17th in the hammer throw (38.62), and Brittany Wright was 16th in the 100 meters (12.61).
Wasser led the Blue Hen men once again as he placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 15.34 meters. Other top 20 finishers for the Hens were Doug Alpers 10th place finish in the shot put (14.08m), Bob Bartocci was 11th in the javelin (45.24m), Chase Renoll was 15th in the shot put (13.51), Gregg Cantwell as 15th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9L29.84), and Steven Jackson was 17th in the 400 meters (50.77).
