SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR -- Former University of Delaware women’s track and field standout Caltha Seymour (at right) posted a fifth place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 54.69 meters at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Championships this past weekend.

Seymour, who competed for the Blue Hens in 1995-2000 for head coach Sue McGrath-Powell, is currently training to earn a spot in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

A member of the Jamaican National Team, Seymour is a graduate of A.I. duPont High School. She currently is living and training in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Seymour has enjoyed an outstanding career in the hammer since graduating from Delaware. This season, she has captured two gold medals, three silvers medals, and two bronze medals at various invitationals. During this past outdoor season, she placed first at the Modesto (CA) Relays May 5, placed second at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, CA on Apr. 14, and finished second at the Jamaican Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 23 in Kingston, Jamaica.

She also placed fifth in the hammer at the NACAC Championships in 2005 and was second in 2005 and third in 2006 at the Jamaican Championships. She narrowly missed out on an Olympic berth in 2004 when she placed third at the Jamaican Olympic Trials.

While at Delaware, Seymour earned five letters in indoor and outdoor track as a weight thrower. She placed fourth in the hammer at the 1998 America East Championships, was 12th in the event at the 1998 ECAC Eastern Championships, and 16th at the 1997 ECAC meet. She holds the No. 3 all-time best outdoor hammer throw in UD history with a toss of 164-11 in 2000.
