PRINCETON, N.J. -- University of Delaware athletes set four school records, advanced to the finals in three events, and posted six top 10 finishes at the second day of the ECAC and IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Princeton University’s Weaver Track Stadium.

Delaware set school records in the men’s 4 x 800 meter relay and Cristine Marquez (at right) set new UD standards in the 200 meters and 400 meters and teamed with Asia Hollis, Alexi Capsouras, and Kristi Cox to set a new mark in the 4 x 400 meter relay.

Among the UD teams advancing to the finals with their performance Saturday were the men’s 4 x 800 meter relay, the women’s 4 x 400 meter relay, and Marquez in the women’s 200 meters.

The Delaware 4 x 800 meter relay team of Corey Wall, Mike Tait, Nate Twer, and James Townsend was the top men’s finisher on the day as the group placed eighth overall to advance to Sunday’s finals. The group’s time of 7:32.89 broke the UD mark of 7:33.26 established by Mark Coyle, Troy Bockius, Joe Quigley, and Jon Geismar in 1996.

Also for the UD men, Jon Gomez was 19th in the javelin (187-6), Jeremy Simkins was 23rd in the 400 meter hurdles (54.03), the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Vinny Fronczkowski, Justin Molligan, Jeremy Simkins, and Nick Morrisey was 26th (3:20.20), Jim Schwendtner was 34th in the hammer (167-1), and Connor Whitesel was 38th in the hammer (162-2).

Marquez was the top finisher for the UD women as she placed fifth in the 200 meters (24.07), seventh in the 4 x 400 meter relay (3:45.78), and 10th in the 400 meters. She advanced to Sunday’s finals in the 200 meters with a fifth place finish in 24.07, breaking her own school record of 24.15 set earlier this season, and placed 10th in the 400 meters with a mark of 54.68, surpassing her own school mark of 55.15 last season. The UD 4 x 400 meter relay team ran to a time of 3:45.78 to advance to the finals and break the UD mark of 3:45.78 by Marquez, Cox, Asha Quant, and Kayla Hennessy in 2008.

Also for the UD women, Kelli McDonald and Jen Holly tied for eighth place in the pole vault (11-11 3/4) to earn All-East honors, Amanda Marshall was 13th in the hammer (166-11), Laura Chirico was tied for 13th in the pole vault (did not meet minimum height), the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Christina Antonopoulos, Kellyn Wright, Karen Mandrachia, and Yianna Antonopoulos was 20th (9:12.64), and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Hollis, Cox, Marquez, and Alex Windsor was 22nd (48.00).
