WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- University of Delaware sophomore John Hally won both the 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles and was part of the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team and Blue Hen outdoor track and field athletes posted 15 first place finishes in dominating the action at the West Chester University Last Chance Meet Friday afternoon.
The Delaware men posted nine first place finishes led by Hally, who won the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.65 seconds and took first place in the 400 meter hurdles with a clocking of 57.61. No team scores were kept.
Also talking home first place finishes for the UD men were Ryan Braunagel in the hammer (152-5), Theo Lusardi in the discus (139-3), Nick Alexander in the shot put (43-6), Jamie Igo in the high jump (6-4 3/4), Glenn Puzio in the 1,500 meters (4:09.65), and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Hally, Kevin Sadeghipour, John Hally, Justin Molligan, and Puzio (3:30.48).
Alexander also placed third in the discus (138-2 1/4), Lusardi was second in the hammer (144-11), Ross Shober was second in the 100 meters (11.38) and third in the 200 meters (23.01), and Brendan O’Hora was fifth in both the shot put (34-6 1/4) and javelin (145-1).
The Delaware women captured six first place finishes as Megan Wiseman won the long jump (17-10 3/4), Kelli McDonald won her 18th career individual meet title by taking the pole vault (12-8 1/4), Julia Somers won the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:54.90), Alexi Capsouras (at right) won the 100 meter hurdles (15.62), Yesenia Boynton captured the 400 meters, and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Boynton, Kim Atkins, Marla Woodarek, and Tijen Ozcan was victorious in 4:14.70.
Capsouras also placed second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.18), Boynton was fifth in the 200 meters (27.55), and Jen Watunya was third in the 3,000 meters (10:55.79) and fifth in the 1,500 meters (5:00.69).
Delaware will be in action next Saturday when the Blue Hens host the Delaware Open at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
