University of Delaware Track & Field Standout Jillian Seamon Earns Academic Award from USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS -- University of Delaware standout javelin thrower Jillian Seamon has been honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as a member of the 2010 NCAA Division I Women’s All-Academic Track & Field Team.

A junior athletic training major from Hazle Township, Pa. (Hazleton High School), Seamon was one of a record 551 student-athletes representing 150 institutions honored. To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a 3.25 or higher cumulative grade point average and have qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Seamon enjoyed a standout sophomore campaign in 2010 as one of the top javelin throwers in the East. She captured the Colonial Athletic Association javelin title in April, placed 15th at the Eastern College Athletic Association championships, and posted a 37th place finish at the NCAA East Regionals at North Carolina A&T.

Delaware’s record-holder in the javelin with a toss of 146-11, Seamon captured individual meet titles at both the Towson Invitational and the Colonial Relays at William & Mary. She also placed ninth at the Penn Relays.

An ESPN/College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American nominee, Seamon also earned a spot on the CAA Academic Honor Roll this past spring.

She was one of seven Colonial Athletic Association student-athletes honored, joining Heather Beichner, Sallie Ford, Nicole Kazuba, Kelly McElroy of William & Mary, Rochelle Sceats and Laura Sinclair of George Mason,

In addition to the 551 student-athletes honored, named national Scholar-Athletes of the Year were Tennessee’s Phoebe Wright and Kyle Huston of Indiana State for indoor track & field and Lisa Koll of Iowa State and Evelien Dekkers of Florida for outdoor track and field.
