Blue Hens Win Five Events

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - University of Delaware men's and women's outdoor track and field athletes captured a combined 12 first place finishes to highlight action at the Tribe Invitational Track and Field Invitational Saturday afternoon at William & Mary.

The Blue Hen men captured seven first place finishes led by senior Brandon Jones (Pennsbury/Newtown, PA), who was a double winner by taking first place in both the 100 meter (11.10) and 200 meter (22.35) dash events, and junior Pat Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE), who won the 3,000 meters in a school record time of 8:38.95. He broke the record of 8:42.16 set by Paul Visentin last season.

Also placing first for the Blue Hen men were Jon DiNozzi (Fox Lane, NY/Middletown, DE) in the pole vault (14-11), Mike Goodhart (Warwick/Lititz, PA) in the hammer (176-6), Brandon Nesbitt (Ewing/Trenton, NJ) in the 400 meter hurdles (55.54), and Claron Ridge (Newark/Newark, DE) in the 800 meters (1:59.70).

The Delaware women captured five first place finishes as Christine Kowalchuk (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg, NJ) won the javelin (120-3), Jennie Chiller (Sharon/Sharon, MA) won the hammer (153-0), Erin Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA) captured the 800 meters (2:17.76), Kristen Frustillo (Cardinal O'Hara/Newtown Square, PA) won the 100 meters (12.63), and Aimee Alexander (Carmel/Stormville, NY) won the 3,000 meters (10:04.85).

Also for the Delaware men, Nate Irvin (Sussex Central/Millsboro, DE) was second in both the 100 meters (11.17) and 200 meters (22.37), Mike Yost (Lake Forest/Felton, DE) was third in the discus (138-1), fourth in the hammer (141-6), and fifth in the shot put (41-9 3/4), Goodhart was sixth in the discus (133-11), and Isaac Wolkowicz placed second in the shot put (44-6) and fifth in the discus (136-2).

Also for the Delaware women, Tyechia Smith (McNair/Jersey City, NJ) was second in the 400 meters (59.59), Jess Urbonas (Rockville/Vernon, CT) was second in the javelin (117-5) and fourth in the discus (115-7), Kristen Salvatore (St. Mark's/Bear, DE) was second in the 100 meters (12.72) and third in the 200 meters (26.80), Kerry Van Riper (Bethlehem Central/Delmar, NY) was third in the hammer (137-5) and fifth in the shot put (34-4 3/4), Gemmill was third in the 1,500 meters (4:51.30), Frustillo was fourth in the 200 meters (26.87), and Becky Russo (Gov. Mifflin/Mohnton, PA) was fifth in the 100m hurdles (16.99) and sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.15).

Both Delaware teams will compete at the University of Maryland Invitational next Saturday, Apr. 6.
