Delaware vs. Marist
Sept. 15, 1999
Delaware 3, Marist 1
NEWARK, DE -- First
half goals by senior Nicole Spadafino and freshman
Brittany Campbell 90 seconds apart sparked Delaware
to a 3-1 win over Marist in women's soccer action at
rain-soaked Delaware Mini-Stadium Wednesday
afternoon.
Spadafino opened the scoring
39 minutes into the contest with her second goal of the
season off a rebound of a Cate Harrison shot.
Delaware (2-3) took a 2-0 lead
at the 40:30 mark when freshman Campbell scored her second
goal in as many games off a feed from Mandy
Merritt.
The Red Foxes (0-4-1) got one
back 8:30 into the second half when Kasey Sibrinsz scored
Marist's first goal of the season. Sarah McTurk's cross from
the right corner found Sibrinsz in the middle of the box.
Sibrinsz then popped a shot past Delaware keeper Rachel
Bersin to make it a 2-1 game.
Erica Larson put the game away
for Delaware, however, with 5:50 remaining. Larson scored
her first goal of the season with Merritt recording her
second assist of the afternoon. Merritt now leads the team
with 10 points this season.
Delaware will host St.
Joseph's (PA) Sunday at 3 p.m. in the second game of a
soccer doubleheader. Delaware's men's team will host Temple
at 12:30 p.m. in the first game of the twinbill.
