BURLINGTON, VT -- Kelly
Walker scored with 5:38 remaining in the second
sudden-death overtime period as Delaware closed out the
regular season with a 1-0 win over Vermont in women's soccer
action at Centennial Field.
Delaware (8-8-1, 6-3-0 America
East) will travel to West Hartford, CT Wednesday to take on
the top-seeded Hartford Hawks in the America East
Championship semifinals. The two will square off at
Al-Marzook Field beginning at 3 p.m. No. 2 Boston University
will host No. 3 Hofstra in Boston at 7 p.m. in the other
semifinal.
Walker, a senior from
Wilmington, DE, headed in Stephanie Schmucker's
crossing pass past Vermont goalkeeper Joanna Engel for her
third goal of the season and 18th of her career.
Freshman Rachel Bersin
recorded her third shutout of the season for Delaware. The
native of Bridgewater, NJ made eight saves in picking up the
win.
Engel had 10 saves for
Vermont, which finished the season 5-13 overall, 2-7 in
America East.
Vermont outshot Delaware,
19-18, but Delaware held a 14-5 advantage in corner
kicks.
