State
Sept. 10, 1999
Wright State 1, Delaware 0
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN --
The Delaware women's soccer team needed more than the
regulation 90 minutes to decide the outcome for the third
time in as many games Friday, falling to Wright State, 1-0,
in the first game of the Boilermaker Challenge Cup at Purdue
University.
Purdue defeated Central
Florida, 4-2, in the second game of the day.
Taryn Jones scored the game's
only goal 12:38 into overtime off of a left side cross from
Kristen Hanks. Jones slipped the shot past Delaware keeper
Rachel Bersin for the game-winner.
It is the first time that
Delaware has started the season with three overtime
contests. The school record for most consecutive overtime
games is four, set in the 1996 season. Delaware also set a
school mark that year for most overtime games in a season
with six.
The teams were even in shots,
8-8, for the game. Delaware held a 12-4 advantage in corner
kicks.
Delaware (1-2) will face host
Purdue Sunday at 2 p.m. in the second round of the
