Delaware at Drexel Oct. 30, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. W 4-1
The University of Delaware women's soccer team
(5-11-1, 4-4) evened its America East record at 4-4
on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Drexel (3-13-1,
0-7-1). The Blue Hens were led by a two goal
performance from Mandy
Merritt(Ontario,Canada/Grimsby) and a goal and
an assist by Kelly Walker (Wilmington,
Del./Dickinson). Delaware started off with a flurry
of goals scoring three times in the first 14:56 of
the game to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Alison
Keehan (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) started the
scoring when she put in a goal off a Walker
rebound. Merritt followed up a little more than two
minutes later when she put in a shot from 10-yards
out into the far post to make the score 2-0.
Walker finished off the scoring barrage when she
put in a shot off a Sara Wilson (Great Falls
Va./Herndon) pass to end the Blue Hens scoring for
the first half. Drexel struck back in the second
half when Nicole DeHorsey put in a shot from
25-yards out to close the gap to 3-1. Merritt put
the game away when she put in her second goal of
the game off an Erin Kelly (West Chester,
Pa./Bishop Shanahan) pass to make the score 4-1.
Delaware outshot Drexel 20-2, including 12-0 in the
first half. The win will give Delaware a chance to
go for its fifth straight winning season in America
East play when they play Towson on Sunday in
Towson, Md. at 12 noon.
