The University of Delaware women's soccer team (2-6-1, 1-0) ended a seven-game winless streak and won its America East opener as the Hens defeated the Maine Black Bears (1-5-2, 0-2) 1-0 on Friday at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. Delaware, which came into the game with a 438:36 scoreless streak, struck in the first half when Nicole Spadafino (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) fed a perfect cross off a penalty kick to freshman Stacey Lukens (Chalfont, Pa./Central Buck West), who knotched the first goal of her career to make the score 1-0. Delaware held Maine scoreless for the rest of the game to extend the Black Bears' scoreless streak to 690:18. Delaware snapped its scoreless streak at 467:14 with the Lukens goal with 15:22 left in the first half. Maine outshot Delaware 16-11, 10-5 in the second half, but Delaware goalkeeper Allison Martin (Malvern, Pa.) had 10 saves and registered her second shutout win of the season.
