The University of Delaware women's soccer team (4-11-1, 3-4) endeda four-game winless streak by defeating Northeastern (2-13-1, 0-5-1) 3-0 onSunday at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. Delaware saw its playoff hopes come to an end after Vermont defeated Hofstra today, making it impossible for Delaware to finish any better than the Catamountswho moved to 5-2 in conference play and defeated Delaware last week to own the tiebreaker over the Blue Hens. The Blue Hens opened the scoring in the first half when Mandy Merritt (Ontario,Canada/Grimsby) scored off a pass from Kim Reynolds (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) to make the score 1-0. Delaware scored later in the half when Erika Larson (Southington, Conn./Southington) headed in a goal off a cross from Amy Cassidy (Silver Spring, Md./Richard Montgomery) to make the score 2-0. Delaware finished up the scoring early in the second half when Kelly Walker (Wilmington,Del./Dickinson) scored her team leading fifth goal of the season off a pass from Merritt to make the score 3-0. Delaware outshot Northeastern 20-1, including 8-0 in the first half and 12-1 in the second half.
