Delaware vs. New Hampshire Oct. 4, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. L 2-4
The University of Delaware women's soccer team
(2-7-1, 1-1) lost for the seventh time in nine
games as the Blue Hens were defeated 4-2 by New
Hampshire (5-5, 3-1) on Sunday at the Delaware
Mini-Stadium. New Hampshire was led by Kristen
Cannistraro's five point performace. The Wildcats
jumped out on two quick goals by Cannistraro in the
first 13 minutes of the game. Tara Foley put in a
third goal in the middle of the first half to lead
New Hampshire to a commanding 3-0 halftime lead.
Delaware came back in the second half when
Nicole Spadafino (Old Bridge, N.J./Old
Bridge) lofted a pass into the penalty box on a
free kick that resulted in a wild scramble that
Kim Reynolds (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath-Haven)
put in the net to make the score 3-1. The Blue Hens
pulled to within one goal when Cate Harrison
(Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) headed in a Mandy
Merritt (Ontario,Canada/Grimsby) corner kick to
make the score 3-2. New Hampshire withstood several
Delaware goal opportunities and with 10:07 left in
the game Sue Abenne put a perfect pass through to
Marky Solomon who put in a goal to move the score
to 4-2. New Hampshire outshot Delaware 16-11 but
saw the Bue Hens put 10 shots on goal in the second
half after having one for the first half.
