GREENVILLE, NC --
Leanne McGinnis scored from 35 yards out with 7:22 remaining
in the first overtime to give the East Carolina women's
soccer team a 1-0 win over the University of Delaware Sunday
afternoon.
McGinnis scored off of
Delaware goalkeeper Erin Johnson, who replaced the
injured Rachel Bersin.
The Blue Hens (6-1-1) had
chances, including a Ginnette Buffone cross in front
of an open net in the 81st minute, but couldn't get one of
their 10 shots past Pirate goalkeeper Brooke
Crews.
Crews finished with five saves
for East Carolina (5-2-1).
Delaware saw its seven-match
unbeaten streak to begin the season ended. The streak had
been the longest to start a season in the 11-year history of
the program.
Megan McFadden and
Sara Wilson represented Delaware on the
All-Tournament Team.
The Blue Hens play next
Wednesday night, travelling to St. Joseph's for a 7 p.m.
