NEWARK, DE --
Mandi Benson scored on a direct kick
with 4:03 left in the first overtime to give the Delaware
women's soccer team a 2-1 win over LaSalle Tuesday afternoon
at Delaware Field.
After a LaSalle foul, Delaware
(2-0-1) had a direct kick from about 25 yards out on the
left side. Benson sent the ball toward the right post and
the ball somehow found its way untouched through a sea of
bodies to the right corner of the net. It was the first
career goal for Benson, who was swarmed by her teammates
after scoring the game-winner.
Brittany Campbell
scored off a LaSalle (3-1) turnover with just over 23
minutes remaining in regulation to tie the match.
Krista Lee scored off a feed
from Amy Schneider just five minutes into the match to give
the Explorers the early lead. The goal snapped Delaware
goalkeeper Rachel Bersin's shutout streak at 223:32
dating back to last season. Bersin went on to collect five
saves. Her goals against average now stands at 0.29 this
season.
Delaware will look to remain
unbeaten when the Blue Hens host Pennsylvania Friday at 4
p.m. at Delaware Field.
