NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore
Brittany Campbell scored with 20 seconds remaining in
the second sudden-death overtime period to give Delaware a
1-0 victory over visiting Lehigh Sunday afternoon at
Delaware Field.
Campbell, a native of Newtown,
PA, scored her team-leading third goal of the season off a
feed from Megan McFadden from 12 yards out. Campbell
hit the McFadden pass into the top right corner of the net
to keep the Blue Hens unbeaten in their first five games
(4-0-1) for the second time in school history.
Delaware outshot Lehigh, 22-7,
but had nothing to show for it until Campbell's game-winner.
Lehigh's Jami Basetti had nine saves, while Delaware's
Rachel Bersin recorded five saves in recording her
fourth shutout of the young season. Bersin, who has allowed
just one goal in 520:37 this season, dropped her goals
against average to 0.17 this season.
The loss dropped Lehigh to 2-2
on the season.
Delaware will take to the road
for the first time Tuesday afternoon when it heads to
Philadelphia for a 4 p.m. match with Temple.
