goal

NEWARK, DE -- A pair of
freshmen teamed up for the game-winning goal as the
University of Delaware women's soccer team remained unbeaten
with a 2-0 win over Pennsylvania Friday afternoon at
Delaware Field.
Just over 13 minutes into the
match, freshman Fran Termini took a feed from
freshman Trisha Breault and beat Penn goalkeeper
Vanessa Scotto far side to give Delaware (3-0-1) the early
lead. With seven minutes remaining in the first half,
Mandy Merritt received a corner kick from Ginette
Buffone and passed to Ginna Lewing for a shot.
Lewing's shot was stopped, but Brittany Campbell stuffed the
rebound home to give the Hens a two-goal halftime
edge.
That would prove to be more
than enough for Delaware goalkeeper Rachel Bersin and
the Blue Hen defense. Bersin made just three saves to record
her third shutout of the season, and has allowed only one
goal in 400 minutes of action this year.
Scotto made four saves for
Penn (0-1), which was playing its season opener.
Delaware is now unbeaten
through its first four matches for the first time since
1994. The Hens will try to run their streak to five Sunday
when they host Lehigh at Delaware Field at 1 p.m.
