GREENVILLE, NC --
Megan McFadden (Warminster, PA/Germantown Academy)
scored off a feed from Brittany Campbell with just
ove r 26 minutes remaining in the match to give the
University of Delaware women's soccer team a 1-0 win over
UNC Wilmington Friday afternoon at the East Carolina
Tournament in Greenville, NC.
After taking a pass from
Campbell, McFadden beat Seahawks goalkeeper Meghan
Fitzsimmons from 18 yards out on the lower left side for the
game's only goal.
The Blue Hens (6-0-1) are now
unbeaten through their first seven matches of the season,
the longest streak to begin a year in the program's 11-year
history.
McFadden's goal proved to be
enough for the stellar Delaware defense, which recorded a
shutout for the fifth time in seven matches. Goalkeeper
Rachel Bersin collected three saves and has allowed
just two goals this season.
The Blue Hens will return to
action Sunday as the tournament continues. Delaware will
face host East Carolina in a 1:30 p.m. match.
